10 Things to Look Forward to in {Hoboken in September}

The dog days of summer are winding down, the final beach days are closing in, and Summer Fridays are going to soon be a thing of the past. This can only mean one thing; the calendar is about to be flipped over to September. Although nobody likes to say goodbye to summer, the month of September has some pretty spectacular things to offer itself. Let’s take a look.

1. Labor Day Weekend

The final hurrah of the summer is none other than the first weekend in September – Labor Day Weekend – and you better make it count, because white pants cannot be worn for at least 35 weeks after this day. Whether you are hitting the Jersey Shore one last time, traveling out of the country, or enjoying some Buds and bbq at home with your closest friends and family, Labor Day Weekend must be spent in a relaxing fashion, and you even have Monday to help you fully recover from the festivities.

2. Tally-Ho Turns 4

Can you believe it has already been 4 years that Tally-Ho has blessed this city with its crazy straws, bumping music, and some of the best all-night happy hour deals in town? To celebrate this milestone, they will be serving up $4 green tea shots and Bud Lights all Labor Day Weekend long.

3. Football

Are you ready for some football?! There’s nothing quite like the return of football season that truly engulfs the city as jerseys can be seen high and low on the backs of fans rooting their favorite team on in one of the local bars. Sunday Funday always seems to be taken a notch up at the same time that the NFL returns…coincidence? We think not.

4. National Cheese Pizza Day

September 5th is national cheese pizza day, and boy are the options for celebrating quite near endless. Hoboken is no stranger to pizza, so be sure to check out this pizza guide and see what places you have yet to visit. Cheers to all my fellow pizza lovers!

5. Hoboken Italian Festival

Hoboken Italian Fest

The Hoboken Italian Festival (the Feast of the Madonna Dei Martii) will take place from September 6th through 9th. In addition to the annual procession through the streets of the Mile Square, there will be various live performances, food trucks and vendors, and fireworks taking place on Saturday night (September 8th). All festival information can be found here.

6. Final Outdoor Dining Days

Take advantage of outdoor dining patios around town – they will begin to close down as the colder weather sets in and we here in the northeast are sent back indoors for a frightful winter season. Although the hustle and bustle of Washington street won’t die down with the fall and winter, the number of chairs and tables surely will.

7. Party with Purpose Cornhole Tournament @ Willie McBride’s

Teams can sign up for entry to the tournament, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes will be awards to the best competitors. In addition, food and drink bracelets are being sold. All proceeds from the event will go to cancer research, clinical trials and local children’s charities. Tickets can be purchased here.

8. Fall Arts and Music Festival

9. Mixology 101 @ The Winston

the winston

Head on over to the Winston for the Mixology 101 Series. Participants will learn how to properly shake, pour, and stir cocktails. The event is targeted at beginners who love to enjoy delicious cocktails, but have yet to master how to create them.

Each class will include:

  • Cocktail Instruction from The Winston’s Beverage Director and Head Mixologist
  • 2 Complimentary Classic Cocktails
  • Giveaways and Gift Bag

10. Everyone Returns to Hoboken

Last, but certainly not least on this list, is the fact that everyone will return to Hoboken for the majority of the weekends. As we all know, the summer is notorious for trips to the beach, weddings, family vacations and other events which lure folks away from our great city. With the change of calendar and temperature, we will see the return of all Hobokenites as well as the normal increase in visitations.
