4 Major Sports, 1 Action-Filled Month: {Where to Catch All the Action in Hoboken}

All sports fanatics out there should have a special place in their heart for the month of October. While much of the world begins to indulge in ‘Pumpkin-Spiced’ this and that, apple/pumpkin picking and haunted hayrides; sports enthusiasts are thrilled with the only month of game action that includes all big 4 sports leagues at the same time! Combine all of this great action with the abundance of places to experience it, and boy, are we in for one heck of a month. Let’s take a look some of the top offerings for each of our major sports.

Baseball

Baseball season is at its apex with the playoffs and World Series taking place this month. Whether your favorite team has made it into the final bunch or not, one thing is for sure – as the weather gets colder, the games get closer, and each inning becomes that much more important.

The college and professional football seasons are in full swing. Saturdays are reserved for watching all of the collegiate games, and Sundays…well Sunday Fundays during football season are what make so many people ride the struggle bus and loathe Mondays.

Hockey

Hockey season gets underway early this month, and then, from there it is 1,271 games of speed skating, quick passing, and board checking to go until the Stanley Cup playoffs begin. Almost every bar in town roots for the Rangers or the Devils, so no matter what your pub of choice is, you will never go truly wrong. We do have a few favorites though when it comes to catching the Blueshirts or those mighty Devils in action.

Best spots to watch NHL hockey:

Black Bear

Black Bear - Rangers

@blackbearhobken

Black Bear is Rangers Country. Plain and simple. This bar is arguably the biggest Rangers fan zone in all of Hoboken. Catch any game here, and you will be sure to see the Broadway Blueshirts all across the giant TV wall, horn sounds on the score of a goal, red-white-and-blue-themed drink specials, and of course, your classic Madison Square Garden chants.

Texas Arizona

TA’s location right across from the PATH has made it a popular destination for fans going to and from Devils games at the Prudential Center in Newark and of course, Madison Square Garden in Manhattan. In addition to fans, Texas Arizona has also been the bar of choice for players following their action on the ice. Grab a game and a beer here, and who knows – you might run into Taylor Hall or Henry Lundqvist!

Basketball

The last of the big four sports that is slated to run in October is the NBA. The regular season kicks off about midway through the month, and boy, is there more hype than ever this year with LeBron now out in sunny LA and the Warriors adding a few new pieces for another run at a title. There is a great mix of young and established talent in the league, and we will see how the monumental move of world’s most elite player changes the outlook of the league this year. Let’s not overlook the NCAA though – college basketball gears up soon, too!

Mills Tavernmills

Mills offers a plethora of TV screens so that no matter who your team is, they’ve got you covered. As for specials – why limit tacos to only Tuesdays? Mills offers Thursday specials for tacos ($2) along with 6$ margeritas. If the South-of-the-Border offering wasn’t enough to entice you, check out their Saturday specials which include $10 carafes of white or red sangria.

McSwiggans Pub

Mcswiggans

Mcswiggans is a go-to for any and all sports action. What makes the offering even sweeter is their daily All-You-Can-Eat food specials. During the week, each day offers a $5 special for endless plates – wings, ribs, chicken bites, oysters and nachos. Come for the game, and never leave hungry!
