6 Hoboken {Hot Dog Spots} To Cure Those Summer BBQ Cravings

One thing I learned when I first started apartment hunting in Hoboken was if you want a decently priced apartment, you have to give up the patio or backyard dream. That also meant giving up the grilling on the weekend dream (pouring one out for the mini grill sitting in my closet). Luckily though, we live in a location where there are a plethora of restaurants serving up our BBQ favorites this summer…especially hot dogs. Below is a list of just 6 spots to grab a hot dog when that grilling itch hits.

1. Biggie’s

You can find these delicious Grilled Hot Dogs under the Sandwich section of Biggie’s menu. Are hot dogs really a sandwich though? The debate continues…either way, order these dogs, and you’ll get two all-beef hot dogs served in your choice of hot dog buns or Italian bread, topped with sautéed peppers & onions. YUM!

2. Antique Bar & Bakery

Antique Bar & Bakery’s current lunch menu boasts a Cappiello, or Italian Hot Dog. Order the Cappiello, and you’ll get a Cotton Farms beef dog with roasted long hot peppers and homemade mustard. But as we all know, Antique Bar & Bakery is known to change up their menu, so stop by and get this delicious dog before it’s gone!

3. Schnackenberg’s Luncheonette

Schnackenberg’s boasts a traditional Kobe beef hot dog on their lunch and dinner menus. You really can’t go wrong with a traditional dog, especially when it comes with homemade chips or fries. This is grilling at it’s finest.

4. Pilsener Haus

Nothing goes better with a good German beer than a sausage or hot dog. Pilsener Haus does it right with six different sausage and hot dog options on their Grill & Rotisserie menu. From P.H. Frankfurters to Jalapeño & Cheddar Frankfurters to a more traditional Smoked Pork Kielbasa, there are no bad choices. All sausages and hot dogs come with sauerkraut, and your choice of fresh bread or french fries. I always opt for the french fries, because duh.

5. Johnny Rockets

For when the hot dog craving hits, Johnny Rockets has your back, especially when those cravings hit after a night of bar-hopping down Washington Street. Pictured here is their famous Rocket Chili Dog. This Nathan’s Famous all-beef frank comes smothered in an all-meat chili, cheddar cheese, and chopped onions. But if this is too intense for you, you can always get the more traditional Rocket Dog. Either way, you’ll definitely get your BBQ kick at Johnny Rockets.

6. Hot Dog Carts

For those that are on-the-go, and don’t have time for a sit-down restaurant, or if you’re like my dad, and you think hot dogs from a street cart are just better, then this list is for you. Luckily, there are an abundance of hot dog carts scattered throughout Hoboken in various locations like…

  • Stevens Park hot dog stand
  • Pier A hot dog cart
  • Columbus Park hot dog stand
  • Hot dog stand on the corner of Observer/Newark

Now head on out, and cure that BBQ craving with one of these delicious hot dogs before summer comes to an end!

Lindsay grew up in the middle of nowhere, Connecticut, where cell service wasn’t a thing (for real, “No Service” was a constant notice on her phone). But her love for pizza and all things marketing & social media brought her to the big city, and eventually to Hoboken. Lindsay is on a constant search for the best slice of Buffalo Chicken pizza and the best Bacon, Egg & Cheese on a croissant…. Any suggestions?! When she is not eating or drinking, you can find her biking up the Hudson River Walkway or traveling the world. She also swears that death glare isn’t directed at you, she just has a case of RBF. She actually really likes people!
