Zero Otto Uno, Hoboken, Neapolitan Pizzeria

Benvenuto to Hoboken {Zero Otto Uno} !

We got to spend a delicious afternoon at Washington Street’s newest Neapolitan style eatery, Zero Otto Uno. Owner Dominic sat down with us to chat about what inspires him and why he decided to open in Hoboken, all while we watched his son, Sonny, cook up some delicious pizza in their custom oven.

The name Zero Otto Uno is the area code in Naples, and its influence can be noted everywhere from the décor, old-fashioned manual slicer and adorable Coco-Cola fridge, to the ingredients. To Dominic, the important thing is quality food, “everything is imported from Italy and bought fresh”. They are willing to spend the money to give Hoboken the best ingredients, and that is what sets them apart.

He should know – Dominic started his career when he was 16, almost 40 years ago. His first restaurant was in Solerno, Italy. He has had a few restaurants and consulted on projects all the way to Shanghai, China. His pizzeria “Bella Napoli” did so well there, they were serving 250 people a day. Dominic is Italian-American but raised his family in Italy. He came back to America to open prior establishments in New Jersey’s Florham Park, Mahwah and Franklin Lakes. When his sons decided they wanted to come to the U.S. and open restaurants, too, Dominic new it was time to come to Hoboken.

Sonny does the pizza in their custom-made oven (designed by Dominic and imported from Italy), while his other son, Joseph, mans the kitchen. You can immediately tell that the passion for food runs in the family. Everything is traditional Italian, no chicken parm! His favorite dish to make is the homemade Ravioli Quadrati, and he thinks the most exciting dish is the Catfish Fried Calamari, “No one uses Catfish”. Every dish on the menu is exciting and original.

This BYOB has been open a few short weeks but has steadily brought in a young crowd hungry to post their food pics on social media. But Dominic is more traditional, he prioritizes providing a consistent and authentic experience. “You need get it right in first 6 months. Do things thoughtfully and carefully.” We have no doubt that he will deliver. Open 7 days a week with prime outdoor seating, Zero Otto Uno is about to become our new fave!
