Drink Local: 8 Hoboken Spots To Grab A {Local NJ Brew}

When it comes to beer, I always say “go local.” No matter where I am in the world, I always try to seek out the best local craft brew to expand my palette with. Luckily for us, there is no shortage of great craft beers in our great state of New Jersey. To help you find a new NJ favorite, we’ve rounded up a list of places to grab a local brew in Hoboken.

1. City Bistro

city bistro

Not only does City Bistro have multiple bars, but they have multiple bars to enjoy a NJ craft brew. From Kane Brewing to River Horse Brewing to Jersey Cider Works and more, you’re bound to find a new gluten-full and gluten-free NJ favorite. Plus you really can’t go wrong when sipping beers on a rooftop.

2. Mills Tavern

Mills Tavern is one of the best downtown sports bars, and my personal go-to spot once football season picks up. Not only do they have great happy hour and pitcher specials during games, but you can also snag a variety of local brews on top and in cans/bottles. 902 Brewing, anyone?!

3. Pilsener Haus

Pilsener Haus is known for their wide selection of German brews…in every size imaginable. But what you probably don’t know is that they always have local beers on rotation, made local and always shipped fresh! Stop by often to see what New Jersey beers make an appearance on the rotating menu!

4. Texas Arizona

Texas Arizona is basically a beer lovers’ heaven. With so many options, you really can’t go wrong with any choice, but I highly recommend trying out one of our great state’s beers (if I haven’t said that enough already). And while you’re at it, inquire about their Beer Club next time you stop by!

5. The Madison

The Madison is not only great for their amazing food menu, but they also have an extensive craft beer menu that includes everything you could ever want. They also happen to have some of our local Hoboken brews at the ready! If you haven’t already, stop by to try one today!

6. The Shepherd & the Knucklehead

The Shepherd & The Knucklehead, lovingly known as The Shep, is the go-to beer bar with the most beers on any menu uptown. I usually have to sit with the beer menu for a solid five minutes before being able to pick out what I want. You can find everything from the normal and expected beers to the rare, limited release beers all under one roof. If you’re struggling to order, I suggest the Hoboken Cityside IPA. You’re welcome.

7. Cork City

If you’re headed downtown, Cork City is the go-to downtown beer bar (it’s also MY go-to beer bar). They have an ever-changing draft & bottle list that often features more New Jersey beers than not. They also do New Jersey brewery tap takeovers often, so check their schedule to see when their next one is! Side note: they allow dogs.

8. Union Hall

Union Hall not only serves up local New Jersey beers on tap and in bottles/cans, but they also brew their very own Union Brew Ale. Not only is it delicious, but it’s almost always available at a discounted price during Happy Hour and Brunch. When you want to drink local, you can REALLY drink local at Union Hall.

And now it’s time to hear from you! Where do you enjoy a cold, local New Jersey beer? Let us know your go-to spot!

Lindsay grew up in the middle of nowhere, Connecticut, where cell service wasn’t a thing (for real, “No Service” was a constant notice on her phone). But her love for pizza and all things marketing & social media brought her to the big city, and eventually to Hoboken. Lindsay is on a constant search for the best slice of Buffalo Chicken pizza and the best Bacon, Egg & Cheese on a croissant…Any suggestions?! When she is not eating or drinking, you can find her biking up the Hudson River Walkway or traveling the world. She also swears that death glare isn’t directed at you, she just has a case of RBF. She actually really likes people!
